Thoughts on Love

Is love just something that happens to us, like the American pop culture wants us to believe?
Is love like in a Hollywood movie, something that happens to us, something we cannot influence, or change?

Can we change our feelings, can we manipulate them, can we control them?
I we believe that we cannot, then are we just mere objects for controlled by a destiny of love, where feelings strike and stop, and leave us helpless behind?

Or is love something else?
Is love something like a bank account? (wow, what a stupid metaphor).
In a bank account we make investments, and we make withdrawals.
In any relationship the partners of the relationship do the same.
Any one partner who does not keep a balance between withdrawals and investments loose out.

If this is how relationships work, and how love work, then we are not just mere objects of love.
Then we can not ignore our responsibilities.
We have to invest in our relationships, in our love.
And in our own integrity.

But can we change our feelings? I don’t know.
But we can make sure we have given any relationship our best shot.
Give love a shot! It might be worth it.
